Whidbey Island is the largest island in Washington State and lies at the northern boundary of the Pugit Sound between the Olympic Peninsula and mainland Washington, about 30 miles north of Seattle. It is named after Royal Navy officer Joseph Whidbey, whose ship was the first to circumnavigate the island while exploring the area with Captain George Vancouver's expedition in 1792. The island remains largely rural with multiple state parks and with the largest of its towns, Oak Harbor, at the center of the Whidbey Island Naval Air Station. Whidbey Island is rich in history and beauty. Click here to learn more. These are some of my favorite images of this place that I live.
